Vitamin C for Campari

by Leo

November is the beginning of orange season which inevitably coincides with cold and flu season here in North America, I like to mark the bittersweet occasion with a drink. Even though common efforts to prevent an impending cold with any amount of vitamin C are quite literally fruitless, there’s something nice about fresh pressed OJ in wintertime. The polarizing taste of Campari on the other hand may not evoke the same wholesome goodness of 100% pure squeezed sunshine but the “reddest of the red digestifs” will beckon forth all warm memories of patio season. That said, the simple distinction of being a Campari drinker is reason enough to enjoy it in any season as well. This may be the perfect time to stock up and break hibernation with some classic, you guessed it, Campari & Orange cocktails.

Now according to the mixologists on Campari’s website, Campari and Orange is a cocktail for the “ladies”. So in the spirit of ribald sexism, here is our version for the “LAAAAADIEEES” and the gentlemen. A slight deviation from the traditional 3 parts orange juice to 1 part Campari, but here’s to equality:

Ingredients
Equal parts Orange Juice and Campari.

Preparation
Build in a juice glass filled with ice. Garnish with a slice of anything citrus.

To get your daily recommended intake of Vitamin C, just drink 2. As witty-man Mark Kingwell dictates of that other Campari favourite: “if you like one negroni, you’ll certainly like another”. Same logic applies here.
