A rainy Sunday seems like the perfect time to post about our sandwiches from Sky Blue Sky, the Wilco-themed sandwich shop in Koreatown on Bloor. We’ve been there once before and had a pleasant enough experience to go back again – and this time I brought a newly acquired work friend. Unfortunately, we were all starving and I guess I should have had the forethought to realize that just because I get full easily (nope, not a bottomless pit as some people think), others need more than a sandwich and salad for dinner.
I can’t remember what my friend got, but other than being disappointed by the soggy bread (top picture), she was happy with how it tasted. It looks like it was filled with vegetables, tomatoes and avocado. She also tried their blue cheese and walnut salad, which looked deliciously healthy.
Leo got the How To Fight Loneliness (bottom picture), a bacon and smoked chicken sandwich topped with honey mustard and crisp green apple slices on their honey-nut whole wheat bread. It was a decent alternative to the last time’s Casino Queen, a turkey sandwich topped with bacon and an onion marmalade.
Craving something with basil (it’s a never ending love affair), I had the At Least That’s What You Said (middle pictures), a provolone cheese sandwich with basil pesto, roasted red peppers and avocado on plain bread. I didn’t like it as much as the Red-Eyed and Blue (mozzarella, tomato and basil sandwich) that I had last time, but I’d still order it again. I was hoping the cheese would have been toasted until melted….
The sandwiches took a while, but SBS was such a nice and cosy laid back space with sleepy music that it made difficult to get annoyed. It also helped that we weren’t in a rush and that they were reasonably priced (all of our sandwiches were less than $6).
