Toronto Doughnuts: Paulette’s Original Donuts and Chicken

by Leo

Our Homer’s Odyssey into Toronto’s doughnuts continues…

- O -

Paulette’s makes donuts, they fry chicken, and they recently won 86′d Mondays‘ “ultimate donut battle” at the Drake Hotel. No small feat, considering they were competing against the likes of Glory Hole, Dough by Rachelle, Bestellen, and Sweet Escape Patisserie. Paulette’s blueberry balsamic doughnut was the crowd-pleasing favourite of the night, with the winner declared based on popular vote after rounds and rounds of doughnuts were consumed by a very packed house. We will summarily describe the event as a Homer Simpson fantasy come to life. But for those that missed it, Paulette’s doughnuts are available Tuesday through Sunday from their amazing smelling storefront in Leslieville. Pictured here are their root beet float and raspberry rose flavours from our last visit. $2.75 each.

July & August Instagram Eats

by Patricia

Since coming back from Montreal, Leo and I haven’t gone out for any dinners or brunch, which has been a nice break on our tummies and wallet. Plus, getting snacks and walking around Toronto after work has been fun! Check out my Ferrero Rocher inspired combo of Dark Tanzanian Chocolate + Hazelnut gelato combo from Ed’s Real Scoop on Queen St. East. (Drawing by Leo.)

Agave y Aguacate’s steak salad and white chalupa

The Drake Hotel’s pork belly kabobs

La Carnita tacos and art print, for which I lined up for over an hour on Adelaide Street…. and was consequently late for work….

The Drake Hotel’s crispy chocolate chip cookies and mango juice, the best cookie I’ve ever bought!

Elle M’a Dit’s  (the newest Baldwin restaurant to open) schnitzel sandwich with fries…it ended up being a very expensive lunch…

Waiting for dinner at the Drake Hotel

by Patricia

From a friend’s birthday dinner last year in December. It was an eerily quiet night, we shared the entire dining area with two other tables. Unfortunately, I was sick as hell and didn’t get to enjoy much of the food. I think I only had a mushroom soup.
