Scarborough Eats: Chinese New Year Lunch at Asian Legend

by Patricia

Things I Can’t Resist Ordering at Chinese Restaurants When Left In Charge:
1. Beef Ho Fun.
2. Dumplings. Of any kind, but preferably pork and shrimp.
3. And, if on the menu, green onion pancakes.

Scarborough Eats: Gourmet Malaysia

by Patricia

A large dining hall with quick service and an extensive menu that was too overwhelming to browse through, Gourmet Malaysia offers a variety of Southeast Asian food from the countries of Borneo (Malaysia and Indonesia) and Singapore. It’s my Indonesian friend’s favourite family spot and she thankfully guided us through the menu that evening. Eaten were yellow noodles in a laksa paste sauce, fried squid very similar to what you will find at Chinese restaurants (but with what I think were crumbled fried onions), and then some ‘boxing’ chicken and grilled chicken with a curry sauce.

Biking…is hard stuff

by Patricia

If you’re following me on twitter, you’ve probably figured out what my big trip news is. I’m going to Peru! To hike up to Machu Picchu! Since the trip notes, travel agent, and my doctor highly recommended I ‘train’ and get ‘moderately fit’ for the trip, I’m trying to figure out fun ways to get some aerobic exercise and strengthen my lung capacity and heart and other stuff, like my calf muscles or something. Biking is the most obvious choice. Leo likes to bike, my cousin likes to bike, and so, we went biking last Sunday. I took my camera along.

We went up a few hills, I huffed and lagged behind, and at one point I lost them on our way back to get cold stone ice-cream – I guess that last part was for the better. Along the way, we encountered a creepy cemetery cat…

Scarborough Eats: Pho Saigon

by Patricia

Pho Saigon is your no nonsense pho noodle restaurant on the Eglinton and Warden strip down here in Scarborough. 9 times of out 10, we usually pick it as our go to place to grab a fast dinner before or after a movie. It’s convenient and consistently good, exactly what one comes to expect for casual Vietnamese food in Toronto.
