I am also just a girl standing in front of a boy, asking him to love her.  – Notting Hill (1999)

It helps to have money when visiting Portobello Road Market, which is as famous for its posh antique shops as it is for being the backdrop of the 1999 romantic comedy hit, Notting Hill, where awkward shop owner (Hugh Grant) meets young Hollywood star (Julia Roberts) and falls in love.  (I can believe that these sorts of things can happen, but, how does a bookshop owner afford to live in Notting Hill is a whole other story, isn’t it?)

Luckily, there are relatively inexpensive stands selling trinkets, vintage cameras, tea pots, brooches, and your standard flea markets sorts of things. If you’re into silver tableware, it’s the place to be. I managed to find a 1900s ink drawing pen with what might be an ivory handle!
