The week before helping me move into my dorm in London, my mom and I went on a little trip to Paris. It was amazing, tiring, we saw so much that the days just blurred in and out of each other. There are so many things to be said about the city. Let’s start with the food.
A Japanese pâtisserie near Luxembourg Garden
Sweets in Paris are incredible! There are pâtisseries, boulangeries, and chocolateries on every street. But, if you had to choose one, I highly recommend Sadaharu Aoki. The genmaicha éclair was exceptional…
The matcha croissant was also pretty good.
At Châteaux de Versailles
If you find yourself hungry while visiting Châteux de Versaille, stick to desserts at Angelina. This bourbon and vanilla millefeuille saved our day. The ham sandwich that we had? Barely passable.
Eating around Quartier de l’Opéra
Brioche Dorée was our go-to breakfast spot nearly all mornings.
A posher alternative to Brioche Dorée is Eric Kayser Boulanger. It’s a higher-end chain, but the prices are still reasonable. We had the loaf of white chocolate brioche on our last morning and returned for their madeleines and brioche aux pralines (the pralines were almonds and hazelnuts coated in pink sugar). We (mostly me) ate them all before remembering to take a picture.
Here’s a typical brasserie-style dinner: steak with mushroom gravy and beans and roast chicken with french fries. So unfussy and satisfying.
Even better: a rustic, meaty bistro lunch on a rainy day at Chez Clement. We wouldn’t have originally gone there at all, but at a relative’s treat we happily enjoyed the Frenchest of French dishes. I ordered a beef bourguignon over pappardelle.
